Re: [pcgen] Confused about a bonus

Hi,

When you choose a "Companion" you do not get any item granted (It may happen in the future, but let's just say that is a lot of work to pull off!). Now, the Program knows your companion has a +3 Enhancement Bonus, and somewhere you said "My companion is a Rapier", so ANY Rapier you equip, will be counted as that "companion". I may have disabled that function, but that is what it does.

I would have to see the character on my copy of pcgen to make any debugging on why 8+8=19, but like I said, the system is likely still granting that +3 silently... so you're actually getting +3 Enhancement from EQMOD, and +3 Enhancement from Proficiency visa via Companion. So, the 8+8=16+3 is the 19.

Hope that explains things. I will recheck the code, and then pump out RC5, then this weekend is 6.06.01 (or at least my plan).

Cheers,

Andrew

I'm finally getting another chance to look at this, and I have installed 6.06.01 RC4. Thankfully the one source that my previous version didn't have, this one does. WOOHOO!

At any rate, that bit of celebration out of the way, this is a 12th level bladebound magus using a rapier, which is correctly listed as a "companion" in PCGen. This should be a +3 weapon at level 12, so I added a zero cost Rapier +3 because PCGen did not automatically add the companion as a weapon to my equipment. Here's how the text lists it:

 Rapier +3
Base Item: Rapier
Type: Weapon. Resizable. Melee. OneHanded. Martial. Finesseable. Standard. Piercing. Sword. Bladelight. MeleePiercing. InspiredOK. Weapon Group Melee OneHanded Piercing. Weapon Group Blades Light. Custom
Wield: OneHanded
Proficient: Y
Cost: 0 gp
Wt: 2 lbs.   Size: M
Damage: 1d6   Crit Range: 3   Crit Mult: x2   Range: 0 ft.
Properties: WEAPON|DAMAGEMULT:2|-0.5, ITEMCOST|TYPE.WEAPON|2000*HEADPLUSTOTAL*HEADPLUSTOTAL, ITEMCOST|TYPE.WEAPON|300|!PRETYPE:1,EQMODTYPE=MASTERWORKQUALITY, WEAPON|DAMAGE,TOHIT|3|TYPE=ENHANCEMENT
Source: Custom - Paizo Inc. - Ultimate Equipment, p.34

So, that looks right to me. Moving on...

I have weapon finesse, so I'm using DEX for to hit with this weapon.

The troubleshooting sheet says the following:

To Hit: +19 = +8[BAB] +2[STAT] +0[SIZE] +3[MAGIC] +3[MISC]

How does 8+2+3+3 = 19? I get now that the +3[MISC] is just a placeholder because I have Weapon Finesse, and my DEX bonus is +5, but where's the extra +3 coming from? Furthermore, my damage is listed at 1d6+8, which seems like it should be 1d6+5 (STR bonus +2, enhancement +3).

Lastly, one bit of weirdness that I'm seeing. My DM doesn't like to deal with encumbrance bookkeeping, so long as we don't go nuts and carry around stupid amounts of stuff. She's OK with hand-waving away a medium load, which is fine with me. To this end, I disabled both SYS_LDPACSK and SYS_WTPSK in the preferences. This appears to have worked for my skills but not my AC. Because I'm at a medium load, it's counting my DEX bonus as +3 for purposes of determining AC instead of +5.

If I'm right about these, it's easy enough to cross out the numbers on my sheet and write in the good ones, but I want to make sure I'm not wrong first!

Thanks,
Justin

Hi,

Well, see, if the issue is fixed, then using an older version doesn't help. For your bladebound weapon, are you customizing the weapon?

Setting up homebrew files is rather simple. In the preferences, set the path to your homebrew directory using either Vendor or Homebrew. Once set, you shouldn't be too concerned about it. Happy to assist, since I have my own homebrew, a test folder for the new sources and the pcgen files.

Cheers,

Andrew

I have a bladebound magus in Pathfinder, and I believe, but can't seem to prove, that PCGen is adding the +3 for my weapon twice. Other than the troubleshooting character sheet, is there a way to find out where numbers are coming from? Seeing a +3 attributed to "MISC" isn't shedding any light on the problem for me.

I'm using v6.06.00 RC2. I realize there are newer versions, but I'm using a source not included with the original files, and I haven't felt like installing the new version and setting that up again. This character is complicated and something always breaks when I change versions.
