Re: [pcgen] Awakened constructs

Hi Tony,

In a nutshell, PCGen can do most anything within it's coded scope. So, the short answer is yes, it can include Construct as a target of the Awaken effect. Is it an available option today? No. I'll explain:

PCGen runs based upon the rule books you load. If you want to really simplify the answer, what do the rule books allow? PCGen is coded to follow the rules as closely as possible.

In Pathfinder, a Construct has not been mentioned as a valid target of the Awaken spell. Ergo, PCGen will not make that an available option, cause the data monkeys that coded up the options saw Animal/Plant/Vermin and only coded those three options into the program.

On a side note I believe this has to do with the fact that Awaken is based upon a natural setting (Druid spell, Animals/Vermin and Plants)... Constructs are not inherently alive or natural and thus would not benefit from the spell. At least that is the "logical" reasoning I would assume. Funny they didn't include oozes. That would be quite a villain if you had a mastermind ooze!

Thus, PCGen is limited by Code limits and what the rule books say. Including invalid options would present the end user with false information and break from our agreement to keep default pcgen characters rules-legal to the books loaded (within human reason).

Two options are then presented to us:

1) If this option is recently allowed in a new source book, or a rules change, you can request a Feature Enhancement for the Data (doing so in our jira instance)

2) If the GM is house ruling this is allowed, then you jump over onto the List File Help group - either on Yahoo or the Forums (groups.pcgen.org) and myself or another competent monkey can guide you into editing your house rule for your campaign to include the normally invalid option.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether it's possible currently to build a PF awakened construct in PCGen?

I can find templates for trees, animals and vermin but no construct.

I have a Clockwork Servant NPC in my campaign who seems to be developing into something...

Cheers,

Tony
